Sigrids Stue and PASAJ are presenting together the project Collecting-ive-ing of Seçil Yaylalı, which she realized during her residency at Sigrids Stue in Gellerup, August 2016. The project attempts to investigate in the visual symbols of people that define their identities. These symbols can be depending on their homeland, own history, own culture and feeling of longing in any kind of personal approaches. The logography/logogram (sign with a meaning), like in prehistoric cultures, is produced with these symbols. We believe that this will give important clues about the visual semiotics of the public in connection with location. The project has been first realized in Gellerup, a special multicultural neighborhood of Aarhus. The logography is collected from Somali, Iranian, Iraqi, Indonesian, Kurdish, Danish, Turkish, Palestinian, Lebanese and Swedish people. All the logographs have been put together in stencils. These stencils are to be used by the visitors of the Cross Cuts Alternative Art Fair Copenhagen. There will also be a workshop in the city garden area on September 3rd from 12am to 6pm close to the art fair venue.
