Wenzel - herself the grandchild of a family displaced in WW II - talks to people about the skill of arrival. Instead of the usual question “Where do you come from (and when are you going back)?” she aks people about how they manage to make a home in a new place - a skill whose importance will only increase.
Based on these conversations, she develops animated drawings which she combines with street art and the internet. Interview quotations and drawings become part of an interactive map of the world – opening a many-voiced panorama on the skills of migration.

Creation process is fun, but is it pure joy? The exhibition negotiates the fine line between today's reality and the fictional world, between play and life, between the joy and pain of creation. The idea for the exhibition comes from a colourful toy shop in a very busy underpass in Istanbul, where the people around it move even more crazily than the toys inside. The artist recreates a part of the store in the gallery space to show the fantastic reality of space and time. The exhibition is curated by Zeynep Okyay and it is arranged with the support of the National Association of Swedish Art Associations

PASAJ is delighted to take part in the exhibition Falling in Love Outward by Interface with Gülçin Aksoy, Özgür Demirci and Seçil Yaylalı in Galway. The exhibition is curated by @alannahrobins and the nine artists are invited by 3 artist led initiatives Interface Inagh, PASAJ and Detroit StockholmBreda Burns, Jane Cassidy, Ian Wieczorek, Zahra Zavareh, Emmy Dijkstra, Jenny Soep, Gülçin Aksoy, Özgür Demirci, Seçil Yaylalı.
Falling in Love Outward is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland and the Galway International Arts Festival.

The project aims to draw a parallel between the cities of Istanbul and Venice, by identifying one or more extinct and alien marine species that the Sea of Marmara and the marine area of the northern Adriatic Sea and Venetian Lagoon share. By translating their research and analysis of these elements into an artistic and visual language, Barena Bianca would like to spark debates between Istanbul and Venice around urgent and common issues such as pollution, globalization, climate change, overfishing, and food, tourism, and biodiversity.

-This talk is realised in the scope of PASAJ's research project "Future has Desires"- 13 Metrekare Sanat Kolektifi (13 Square Meters Art Collective) is trying to add alternative layers to the urban memory, consisting of fragmentary narratives, by documenting the stories hidden in Mardin's memory with the research and archive project Kayıt (Record) which it started in 2017, and the subsequent Kayıt Dışı (off the Record) and (on the Record) The collective carries out its works with its members specializing in different fields such as photography, sculpture, philosophy, graphics, kite and architecture, people living in and around Mardin who cannot find a production platform for themselves, artists and artisans. The sensitivity and the adopted amateur spirit at all stages of the work strengthen the inclusive structure of 13 Square Meters, an open sharing and production platform.

Nihan Somay and Eduardo Cruces are the guests of small things studio residency of PASAJ for 1 month in Barın Han starting from May 17th with the intention of using the space for research, taking a break and listening. In this process, they will be looking at how they relate to writing, printed matter and speech in their works, through Emin Barın's calligraphy pieces that treat text as perpetual flow and transformation, Barın Binding Studio's ongoing activities since 1949, publishing houses, newspapers and residents of the neighborhood who step by step surrendered to the demands of the tourism economy in #Istanbul, and through pieces that have been scattered, recollect and sometimes that don't seem to hold together anymore.

WOMANHOOD AND SUSTAINABILITY |

The Swiss Turkish art Project "Womanhood & Sustainability" examines female perspectives of the urgent issue of sustainability through art. For this unique transcultural project, Swiss artists Talaya Schmid, Aglaia Haritz and Patricia Jacomella joined Turkish artists Gözde Ilkin, SENA and Ecem Yerman in Ankara for an artistic exchange and production process to generate art talks, workshops, performances, panel discussions and works for an exhibition at BARIN HAN, Ä°stanbul. The exhibition connects key figures in art, feminism and environmental issues and will open on 7 April 2022.
